The all share index ASI appreciated by 2.29% in the 2nd quarter of 2017 gaining 7,371 basic points from March to end of quarter 2, 2017. The ASI closed at 33,177 basic points.
Market capitalization on the floor of the Nigerian stock exchange also appreciated by same margin gaining N2.5 trillion between March and end of quarter 2, 2017 and closing at N11.45trillion.
The financial sector proofs its dominant in the second quarter just as it did in the last quarter as the most developed sector in the NSE. The sector remains the most active in volume week-in-week-out.
The financial sector contributed 80.25% of the total volume of stocks traded in quarter 2, 2017.
In the Exchange Traded Product of the Nigerian stock exchange, a total of 41.26m units of products were exchanged in qtr 2 compared to 92,472 units of products in qtr 1 2017. Total value of product exchanged in qtr 2 was N199.96m in 92 deals compared to N2.506 in 113 deals in quarter 1, 2017.
In the Bond Market, a total of 64,098 units of Federal Government Bonds valued at N106.5m in 288deals were traded in qtr 2, 2017 compared to 149,199 units of Federal Government Bonds traded in qtr 1 valued at N142.874 million in 76 deals.
