NSE Weekly – At the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) week ended 24 January 2020, the NSE All-Share Index and Market Capitalization both appreciated by 0.03% to close the week at 29,628.84 and N15.262 trillion respectively. The ASI increased by 10.32 basic points, while Market Capitalization gained N10 billion.
The NSE started the year on the weekly gains and has maintained the gain till the current week. The market has gained 2,660.05 basic points year-to-date with a capital gain of N2.46 trillion year-to-date.
The NSE-Banking Index made the first loss in the year this week with a drop of 10.40 basic points to closed the week at 394.15 from 404.55 the previous week. The Banking Index depreciated by 2.57% week-on-week but appreciated by 10.46% year-to-date.

A total turnover of 1.237 billion shares worth N22.762 billion in 21,156 deals were traded this week by investors on the floor of the Exchange, in contrast to a total of 2.087 billion shares valued at N26.470 billion that exchanged hands last week in 24,262 deals.
The Financial Services industry (measured by volume) led the activity chart with 837.345 million shares valued at N10.511 billion traded in 12,041 deals; thus contributing 68%, 46% and 57% to the total equity turnover volume, value and deals respectively.
The Industrial Goods followed with 154.540 million shares worth N2.998 billion in 2,862 deals. The third place was ICT industry, with a turnover of 52.709 million shares worth N1.262 billion in 709 deals.
Trading in the Top Three Equities namely, Access Bank Plc, Zenith Bank Plc and Guaranty Trust Bank Plc. (measured by volume) accounted for 421.765 million shares worth N8.769 billion in 5,886 deals, contributing 34%, 39% and 28% to the total equity turnover volume, value and deals respectively.
No bank appeared in the Top Ten Market Gainers list in the week under review. While Unity Bank and NPF Microfinance bank are the 2 banks that appeared on the Top Ten Decliners list this week, with a loss of N0.06k and N0.10k to close the week at N0.63k and N1.13k respectively.
