Ademola Adebise whose full name is Ademola Abimbola Adebise was born in Lagos in October 1966 to the family of Mr and Mrs Adegoke Adebise. He started his early education at Surulere Baptist Primary School, Lagos in 1972 and later attended Baptist Academy in 1978 also in Lagos.
Ademola is fervent christian who is also involved in community development. He is married to Adejumoke Adebise and they are blessed with three children together.
Ademola Adebise studied Computer Science at the University of Lagos and obtained a Bachelor’s degree in 1987. He also has a Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) from the Lagos Business School and attended the Advanced Management Program (AMP) of the Harvard Business School.
He is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountant of Nigeria, a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, an honorary member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria, a member of the Computer Professionals of Nigeria (CPN) and also a member of the Institute of Directors.
Adebise worked as a Programmer/Systems analyst at an indigenous Information technology company in Nigeria in 1988 before he started his banking career at the Information technology department of Chartered Bank (Now Stanbic IBTC bank). He rose to become the Head of Information technology and the Chief financial officer (CFO) of the Chartered Bank between 1989 and 2000.
Between 2001 and 2005, he was the Assistant General Manager at National Bank, supervising Risk Management, Treasury and Corporate Banking and became a General manager at National Bank in 2005.
Ademola was Head of the Finance & Performance management Practice for Nigeria at Accenture in 2005, where he led multiple successful projects for banks in Business Process Re-engineering, Information Technology and Risk Management.
Adebise joined Wema Bank as part of the Bank’s executive management team in 2009 as the Executive director in charge of South Bank and later Deputy Managing Director supervising Corporate Banking, Treasury, and Support Functions between 2009 to 2017.
In July 2018, Adebise became the acting Managing Director, following the retirement of Mr Segun Oloketuyi his predecessor. On approval by the Central Bank of Nigeria, he became the substantive MD/ CEO of Wema Bank on October 1, 2018.
Adebise serves on the board of Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System Plc (NIBSS), AIICO insurance Plc, and AIICO Pension Managers Limited. He was also on the board of Great Nigeria Insurance Plc.
Awards and Achievement
Wema Bank under Ademola’s leadership, launched ALAT to provide digital banking services for students, entrepreneurs and professionals in Nigeria. ALAT, the first Nigerian fully digital bank, is a branchless bank with apps available on Google Play, the Apple App Store andwww.online.alat.ng, offers unique features including account opening in minutes, group savings, instant loans, a virtual dollar card and up to 10% annual interest on savings. Over 200,000 ALAT accounts have been opened since May 2017, accounting for more than 1 billion naira in deposits.
Wema Bank pioneered card control, a solution that allows customers secure their payment cards by locking and unlocking their cards directly from their mobile phones.
These achievements and solutions earned the bank several accolades including Excellence in Branchless Banking, Digital Banking Platform of the Year and Best and Innovative Digital Solution. In addition, the Bank was awarded the Best Digital Platform in Nigeria and the Best Mobile Banking APP by the respected World Finance Magazine.
